Your Typical Friday

Today I woke up in my new dorm room (quite a difference from Lever).  This room is typically a three person room (but just one for five weeks… woohoo!), with 2 sinks and a full bathroom. Turner Annex (a restored HoJos) comes complete with swipe card access, two security guards, drawing tables in place of desks, and you guessed it… a pool.

I got hungry around 11 and went exploring for a place to eat near a place I could get 2 rolls of quarters.  Lucky me, a stopped right in front of this gem next to wachovia! http://www.zunzis.com/. Heck yes chicken gyro doused tzatziki sauce.  and i actually ordered from this guy!zunzi

After this, I stopped by SHOPScad to get a college tshirt. Yep… not the bookstore, but still worth the visit. http://www.shopscadonline.com/shop

I met my supervisor, the amazingly wonderful and talented David Blake, for a tour around SCAD/Savannah around 330. We zoomed through the entire Historic District and stopped at several buildings the freshman visit during Orientation.  When we visited the Student Center (picture below), I had to apologize for gawking as he gave me a quick tour.

What used to be a synagogue, now serves as their student union where all things Student Involvement live. To give you the quickest synopsis possible, imagine stained glass windows, swivel couches on wheels, the largest flat screen television youve ever laid eyes on (yes, close to jumbotron), accent lighting that changes based on the time of day, and sleep pods. yes…  sleep pods.

My desk: 1st floor. I had to stop myself from squealing as I took a seat.

After meeting every nice person in the Student center, David showed me parker’s market … a great place for non-sketchy gas pumping and a delish deli wrap!parkersmarket

Next we stopped by York Hall & I met the Dean of Students, where we learned we are both part of the same two clubs. 1) we’re newbies (he’s only been here 9 days… 8 more than me) and 2) we’re from the “north” (PA & VA).  He’s pretty much the coolest man wearing a velour suit jacket in the middle of July that i’ve ever met in my life.

Every piece of art in any building is either student or faculty art. It’s absolutely incredible. Huge ten foot paintings back to back. I fell in love. <3 <3 <3

I learned the difference between the historic district versus the victorian district, saw the nation’s girl scout headquarters (hey hey kappa deltaaa), learned the history behind pinkie masters & why PBR is a must, picked Jones Street as my future place of residency (… right), found out Forsyth Park is a perfect 1 mile run, and realized Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil will be my next “must read.”

But for tonight I’m reading, “Savannah College of Art and Design New Hire Orientation Information Book” followed up with some sweet dessert of Summer Swarm reading materials. :)

Tomorrow… I’ll visit broughton street for some closed toed dress shoes. Who knew such a liberal campus would have such conservative administration? god i love this town.
